My daughter has a learner policy, which stops automatically when she passes her test, which hopefully will be next month
I went via compare the market, it was the top one, can’t remember the name |

Son is with Woop. He covered car as a learner, he just had to ring them to advise he had passed his test and the cover continued until renewal. We were happy with price as it was £1000 to start and then reduced to just over £500 at renewal. Has black box which he has had no issues with.

DS was with Collingwood whilst learning at a reasonable rate. They dont novate the policy though when they pass. Annoyed me at the time as they had said they did when we took out the policy however they stopped offering it.

DS is with Marmalade, learner policy with black box, converts to a full policy when they pass.

Does anyone know if you can take out a stand alone policy for a car already covered by another policy. We want to insure our DS on our car, but our current insurer won't cover him as he has had his professional licence more than 2 years

We used Covered insurance when my son was learning. It’s a pay as you go policy so rather than paying per month you would pay for the amount of days covered to be used within a certain timeframe. This worked well for us as my son only drove the car a couple of days a week so we were able to book 28 days of cover to use in 3 months for example. You do have to make sure you book the days you will be driving though but this can be done on the day not in advance.
I hope I have explained this clearly, its sounds more complicated than it is. Check out the covered website it may suit you better than a policy with a set monthly Amount. |
