Our 26 year old boiler broke down 3 times in December. I used the first number quoted and spoke to a real person who was really helpful and got an engineer out to us the same day as DH is vulnerable due to a heart condition. We ended up having to have a new boiler installed on 23rd December. All the engineers said they are swamped with work because of Covid and so many of them being off work because of it.

OP I know it's a pain that you're out of pocket and it's taking until Tuesday but what is your local area like? A quick google on Boxing Day and I had a tradesman out within half an hour to repair my boiler for £80. Expensive, yes but I took it given it was Boxing Day and he came through a company. Told me to keep his number and if needed in future to call him directly as it would be cheaper - wouldn't have to pay his a bump I'm guessing.
Given the temperatures, it's too long to be without water/heating.

I am sorry to say, that things might be a bit worse from Thursday ! The so called big bosses are making things harder for the engineers at the moment... but hopefully things will get better soon...
