When we bought our last 2 cars the dealer advised us not to have the keyless entry option due to increased risk of theft (Audi)
We also have a post on our driveway as we thought it was the best deterrent. |

Be aware that Faraday pouches do fail over time, sometimes within months.
So regularly check them by taking them up to the car with the key in the pouch to make sure it doesn't unlock. As people have mentioned, some you can disable by doing things like double pressing lock, others disable themselves if the doesn't move for a set time. So check your manuals to see what your car does. You can of course take additional measure such as steering wheel locks or driveway posts. There are also products like Ghostwatch which can be fitted which add an additional action like pressing certain buttons in the car before it can be started. It does increase the risk of a break in for the keys, so it is recommended that you don't hide the keys or take them to bed etc as you don't want to make it so they have to engage you should you go that route. I know exactly how you feel our keyless Kuga was stolen in July. I did make a thread at the time and faraday bags were recommended.
The police closed our case the day after we reported it stolen and insurance paid out straight away. Since our car was stolen there have been a spate of them on FB in our area. Another one just yesterday. I loved that car and we can’t afford another one at the moment as DH not worked for 10 months. |

I own two Keyless vehicles, a 2018 VW Golf and a 2015 Nissan GTR.
Both cars keys are in Faraday Pouches, both have a Disklok Steering lock and both have an aftermarket Immobiliser, called an Autowatch Ghost, which means a code between 4-20 button presses long must be entered (using the buttons on steering wheel/dash) or the cars don't start. Sorry to hear about your Civic, but i'm paranoid myself so have gone to those lengths. |

DH has been putting his keys in a tin since I mentioned about keyless theft. I'm going to order a couple of faraday pouches now for extra security

Sorry to hear about this. I had a car stolen years ago so I know how you feel.
I did not know about these pouches though so I’m glad I read the post. I bought a keyless entry Mercedes C200 in October and I’d be devastated if it was taken. I’m going to order mine right now! |

Oh no - that's dreadful.
Id be distraught - especially as its brand new. If you are anything like me I LOVE my cars and i can imagine a Type R is an awesome bit of kit. Thankfully no-one was hurt so hopefully you can move forward with a new car. |

We already keep our car keys in a Faraday's box but the new crime around us is to steal the catalytic converter. I'm thinking about having a special lockable cage fitted to my car to prevent it.

A steering wheel and wheel lock are good deterrents.
Hope you get your car back without damage as they are cracking looking cars |

Alot of manufacturers now have keys that go to sleep to stop this sort of thing. Also most dealers can switch this function off if requested using diagnostic equipment. I turned my ford Mondeo keyless entry off using my diagnostics as the keys were not the type to sleep. But still got the habit of putting keys in pouches.
