Weather - Call this a heatwave?

Who remembers the real “heatwave” of 1976?

What can you remember of it?

I remember an outburst of millions of green aphids - quickly followed by a plague of ladybirds... that fed on the aphids...

Over to you...

I remember feeling like a very responsible 8 year old as I queued at the stand pipe for the families water. Also vividly remember all the news clips showing dry reservoirs.
But considering how little rain we’ve had over the last 3/4 months and presumably more water being used with everyone at home, I’m surprised there hasn’t already been warnings for hosepipe bans etc

I was on a Building Site near the S.Wales coast and working outside can only be described as hell on earth.

At lunchtime we used to all jump into the trucks and descend on the local beach. None of us had bathers so up to 150 builders used to charge down the beach naked and jump in the sea.

Mothers screaming and covering their children's faces.

The Police used to turn up, take one look at us and leave.

Would probably qualify as a “hate” crime now 🤣

I remember every summer in the 70s like this...oh except when we went camping, then it rained solidly for weeks...

I remember standpipes, and going to Bridlington on holiday and literally cars, lampposts etc being totally covered by ladybirds (if that was the same year).

The now legendary ‘mankini’ was not in ownership back then I take it.
