Resale restrictions and add-ons.
We currently have 350 points but will be buying 150-200 more within a year or so (we bought in at $72 a point when the $ to the £ was 1.7 and so we are hoping that the exchange rate may improve slightly to ease the pain).
We had intended to buy direct due to the resale restrictions, probably adding to one of our existing contracts at SSR, or AKL. Whilst we purchased those points also through resale, we are grandfathered in due to purchasing our current resale points in 2013/2014 and so the resale points usage restrictions do not effect us. Having looked at resale points however, the are considerably cheaper than buying direct, and so now I am considering buying resale, but using our existing points for Riviera and Reflections and then using our new resale points when we want to stay at legacy resorts. My question is, does anyone know how Disney police the resale restrictions on add-ons at legacy resorts when owners are not subject to the resale restrictions with their existing points? Can Disney no longer merge the contracts? Would I have 2 contracts albeit at the same resort? Any information would be gratefully received.

I have a mixture of direct and restricted resale. It is always the points that attract the restrictions, not the owner or the membership. As long as the deed is in the same name(s) and it is the same use year you will have a single contract number (each additional contract will have .001, .002 etc after it).The points themselves will have their own restrictions so you will just have to make sure you use the right ones for the right booking (it won’t let you use any new resale ones for Riviera for example). If you currently have a blue card you will continue to have one as long as one if your contracts entitles you to it.

Thank you that’s really interesting because recently we managed to change our Saratoga booking that will resell points and split the holiday and do part of it at Baylake tower
It didn’t dawn on me we could not use these points at Riviera My plan Kroeber was to go for two weeks in Florida and book 1 week in Coppercreek and one week in Saratoga and book these of the 11 month mark but the seven month mark try and swap into Riviera It looks like I have to swap my Coppercreek book it to Riviera then |

I'm similar my latest cannot be used at Riviera. No problem, I have 300 points I can use at Riviera et al, and so just have to be careful which points I use to book elsewhere if I ever stay at Riviera.
I'm not buying Riviera and taking that hammering if I ever sold. The resale restrictions made resale more attractive to me and many others over direct.
