Hi,
We are on our last day now & had a night at HHN on Friday night & another Sunday night.
We did what used to be called stay and scream on Friday & basically if you have daytime admission to Universal Studios (it doesn't need to be a 2 park ticket) as well as an HHN ticket you go into one of the areas set aside for HHN guests whilst other guests get escorted out the park.
The areas are at Finnegans pub and the street around it & next to the Simpsons too.
We waited in the Finnegans area from about 4.30/4.45 which allows early access to Ghostbusters & Stranger Things. Once in the area you choose which house & form a queue to get to it (on Friday the ST queue was way bigger than GB).
We chose Ghostbusters & had done the house about 15 mins after it opened, if you wanted to do both ST & GB without express I would do ST first.
The Simpsons area releases to the houses at the back of the park & is supposed to be much quieter.
If you don't have a day ticket you can buy one called "scream early" for $25 on the HHN ticket site.
Both nights were very busy & if you can afford it I would get express for at least one night.
You could maybe try stay and scream one night & do express the other night.

Hope this helps

We went last Sunday using stay & scream and stayed in the Holding area outside Duffs bar ( near simpsons ride). We had done the three houses close to Men in Black in an under an hour.
