It's a great wee place if you like to relax on the beach and have a few beers at night in one of the restaurants/ pubs. We've stayed at the Maderia Bay condos and the location is great. However prob 4-5 days is enough... then up to Orlando for some park time.

We were in there yesterday. Great choice of taffy but do be aware there are no prices on anything. We asked how much the large bag of multiple flavoured taffy was. $17.99 plus tax
. We didn't take up the offer

To answer the OP yes we think Johns Pass is worth a visit. We are 5 minutes drive away at South Beach Condos on Treasure Island. Doing 3 nights here which is probably enough though I could do 4 if pushed. Some good food at Johns Pass. The clam chowder at the Friendly Fisherman on the Boardwalk is the best I ever had. Hoping to do a dolphin cruise this afternoon but bookings are low due to lots of people cancelling their visit when there was threat from Dorian. The boats will only go out if 10 or more people show up. Yesterday"s cruise didn't run so our last chance this afternoon.
One thing to be aware of with Johns Pass, you need to pay for parking and it can start to mount up if you visit several times. There are gift shops that some may regard as tacky but I don't think they are as tacky as the gift shops on the 192. Overall it's worth a visit. Look out for the pair of dolphins that patrol the Pass

I hope you get on your dolphin cruise. We did the sunset dolphin cruise a couple of years ago and there was a horrendous lightening storm. People were screaming and shouting turn back saying we are only in a tin bath. The captain did not seem at all worried, obviously used to the storms and probably knew it was too far away to hit us. It was an experience.

You can usually see dolphins if you visit The Hut. Food is ok but the live bands are better

We saw loads of dolphins on our trip and great commentary. We used Hubbards Dolphin Cruise. If you park on the multistorey car park Hubbards will validate your ticket for all day parking for $5.

Excited about Disney
|
We spent a day at Johns Pass in 2017, and then went to Busch Gardens the following day. We loved the beach there, really quiet and chilled. We had dinner at Bubba Gump and then spent the evening at Gators looking out at the water with a cocktail. Really liked the laid back atmosphere of the place and would go back again in a heartbeat. Nice just to take a day away from the parks and totally relax.
