Great photo's of your bike ride. We didn't do that but we passed loads of people on bikes and most of them seemed to be pushing the bikes up that hill! That would've have been us

Glad you enjoyed Alcatraz.
Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one who pushed the bike up the hill, it's really steep

We had a great first day

We had a fantastic first day. The whole day was a pinch me moment, we couldn't believe we were finally there!

What a busy day for you - well done you on all the cycling. Hope you didn’t ache too much the next day.

You did do well to stay up, especially after fitting in Alcatraz too.

We had such a great first day.
Surprisingly I didn't feel too bad, although my backside was a bit sore
In hindsight I should have booked Alcatraz for the following evening as I don't think we did it as much justice as we could have done, but we still found it fascinating!

So happy to find your trippie Have just started reading it today, as I'm planning our own (shorter) road trip. Can I ask a question about the bikes... are you always in a bike lane? I don't like being out on the road and haven't cycled myself in a few years either! And was it safe to leave your bike outside if you stopped anymore, or do they come with locks? And also, how did you know which ones were yours on the ferry!?

Hi there, thank you for reading along!
Yes there is always a clear bike path from the shop to the bridge, honestly if I could manage then you'll be fine
Yes they came with locks so don't worry about leaving them anywhere.
Haha it is quite tricky to work out which ones are yours but they have a number on them so you just need to remember that and roughly where in the line they are

What an epic bike ride, the photos are completely worth the physical effort though! Alcatraz looks really interesting but slightly scary too I can totally imagine that you were completely worn out after such a huge day. Lots of great info, thank you

It certainly was an epic bike ride, flipping hard work though!
Alcatraz was fascinating, I do wish we had gone the following night though as I think we would have done it more justice. Very eerie though!
