Interested in getting the visitor toll pass. Do you collect it at the airport when you collect your car. (We are with Alamo.) If so where in the airport?

You pick it up in the airport near the car hire desks. There were two staff members with iPads when we collected ours in July, they looked up our reservation, checked our credit card details and gave us our pass.

Here is what their FAQ’s say about collecting the pass

Where do I pick up and return a Visitor Toll Pass™?

You can pick up hangtags at the Visitor Toll Pass™ counter located on Level 1, Terminals A and B, at Orlando International Airport. At the end of your trip, please return your pass to the counter; it’s open seven days a week from 9 AM to 1 AM (Eastern Standard Time). Or you can drop it off at a Visitor Toll Pass™ drop box located at:

• Pedestrian tunnels from rental car return parking garage to Terminals A and B
• Pedestrian walkways from rental car return parking garage to Terminals A and B

Really gutted that this isn't running in January when I go. Always feel a bit fleeced when getting hit with the admin fee before I have change for the tolls.

That's what I thought as I go out 30th April. They said my dates were covered and gave me those dates.

You don’t need to opt out, so long as the tag is on your rear view mirror it will override anything else.

We used it in July this year and our car hire was through Alamo and we had no issues. I’ll link below another thread on the Visitor Toll Pass with more information and where I commented with details of our actual charges on our return.

You don't have to but I'm indebted to regular car forum Dibber chmurf for this possible explanation which seems to make sense.

The camera takes a photo of your plate just like every Sunpass scheme in Florida does. Some sensor in addition to the camera obviously reads the VTP tag. When all the photos are checked by the respective Highways agencies they will be able to filter out the photos taken of cars carrying the VTP tag and won't then invoice Alamo so Alamo don't charge you.

A reasonable explanation I think. Lots of gizmos as you pass under a plaza.

Mick

PS there's been scores of satisfied DIBB VTP users and no one has been double-dipped on the CC by Alamo and VTP
