Mobile Auto Europe Insurance

I don't know what insurance option to go for. DH said 'ask the Dibb'. So here I am 😂

For £50 extra the insurance includes towing, unused day refund due to car damage and damage to additional items (GPS, child seat etc - we won't be having these).

Is this worth having do you think?

Auto Europe as standard covers glass, undercarriage, wheels and roof.

Most companies don't cover undercarriage damage so go on Daytona Beach and hit a rock you will end up paying!

The extra £3.95 a day you are asking about isn't worth it in my view. They are obliged to tow a rental car in if it breaks down due to a mechanical or electrical defect or following a collision.

What isn't covered in that £3.95 is helping you with changing a wheel following a puncture.

If you wanted reassurance and needed the following you can get it for less than Auto Europe via a UK or USA broker
Lost keys
Assisting ref a puncture
Misfueling
Undercarriage damage
Glass.

In summary. In my view for £3.95 you aren't getting much. For circa £3 to £4 you can get much better cover.

Thank you Mr T. You confirmed sort of what I was thinking. We shouldn't be without a replacement, therefore needing a refund for unused days either should we? We'd surely have a replacement.

I was going to head off and check out brokers.

Just read out your reply to DH, he thanks you and reckons we may as well stick with the standard cover.

You are right about a replacement.

Lets say you went to the MK and at the end of the day the car wont start. A right pain I know but they will bring you out a new car on the back of a tow truck and swap over cars. OK it will take a few hours but that is what all rental agencies do and are obliged to do as well.
The same applies to a collision.

I don't take the enhanced roadside assistance package as I can change a wheel myself. If you do take it out they will come out and do it for you.

Actually in these circumstances they do tend to just bring a new car anyhow!

Some Dibbers use this company

enhancedroadsideassistance/faq.aspx

Others get coverage from a UK company that can be found by a quick Google or on Money Maxim etc etc

You'd think with 6 adults and 2 babies, someone will be able to change a wheel. Here's hoping 😁

Hopefully!

I think the package is good for somebody who will struggle to jack up a car and physically do the wheel change. On a good day I will be fine, if my back is playing up I could still do it but could cause myself big issues.

The lost key scenario is all that worries me. Big money if you lose them. Thats where the package pays dividends.
