I would only advise one if you have no choice. Try and get other chairs raised first. If you use the rise function all the time you are not using your muscles and this affects mobility and other transfers in the house.

They're convenient if you only want to raise/lower your legs, which is all hubby, currently, uses his for, dad was the same until his health/movement deteriorated, proved it's worth once spinal stenosis put him off his feet and he needed further assistance.
Don't be put off by the chair having rise/recline, you may just need it one day.

As above... definitely try and get one that has independent movement, so you can have the footrest up without moving the back rest. A lot of the slightly cheaper models lower the backrest and raise the footrest in one movement. No good whatsoever if you have breathing issues. And again, try different options for size (width and depth). Some of them also have inbuilt electric pressure reducing cushions which can help prevent skin breakdown for those that are very immobile. We have a local, independent mobility shop that is fabulous, maybe look for something similar locally to you?

Hi THC, my physio brother consulted for our parents, hence the rise and recline, he was aware dad had issues, compounded when his legs wouldn't hold him one day and he sliced his wrist open on the hall radiator as he fell, nasty. Our 91 year pack horse of a mother uses the leg lift when watching TV for a couple of hours at night, whereas dad needed the chairs full capability from 89 to 92, prior to that we used his rollator to get him up/down, walk to the loo/dining table/outside. Sadly, no matter how hard we all tried the writing was on the wall.

Dad’s community team recommended HSL which is where we purchased it, different models/finishes and the chairs offered to him were based on his height. He can’t get up and out of seats easily so the ‘rising’ function has proved invaluable. Also simple things like when he is sitting in the chair, he’ll use the function to elevate his legs so mum can put his socks on more easily. We had it customised with wooden paddles at the end of the padded arms so he has something to grip onto. There’s lots of different options. It’s also incredibly sturdy and very smooth whenever the motor is working. As an aside my uncle has an alternative make, nowhere near as sturdy and he recently ‘fell’ out of the chair when rising as it couldn’t support him properly. I think Dad’s chair was around £2000 but we’d be lost without it.
