Orlando fort Lauderdale/keys twin centre

Looking to go back to Orlando this year (August)

Been looking at flights to fort Lauderdale as we want beach as well as Disney.

Thinking 1 week in Disney then 1 week fort Lauderdale/keys

Disney we know what we are doing its the fort Lauderdale/keys bit!

Do we base ourselves in fort Lauderdale then have days out, eg key largo or is it worth making the effort and having 2/3 days at key West?

Any recommendations for accommodation in the area for family of 5?

Definitely go down to key west we did it last Christmas and it was lovely ,
We were in Fort Lauderdale for three days and although it's nice it's very geared towards cruises & cruise passengers so the prices reflect this.
The beaches are nice but in my personal experience no where near west coast Florida nice.
3 days was more than enough for us and we wouldn't bother making a trip there again.
