The dibb isn't typical though.
Most US families book within 3 months of arrival and booking a year out would be unthinkable . We Brits are a weird exception (and are not the majority in terms of WDW guest by any means). Even normal UK families don't book more than a year ahead as flights aren't bookable until then . I do see some first timers getting quotes now for summer 2019 and the prices are over the top. Yes booking a villa or even WDW rooms eighteen months ahead at times will save some money but that's about all. No one is actually booking full holidays "years ahead" although some families may have plans for further ahead because they need to save for it, but that's not just Disney, many families can't afford a "big holiday" every year . |

Great suggestion regarding UBER! I wonder if it would be cheaper to do it that way for us where we are staying. And the thought of having a glass of wine with a meal does sound delightful!

I suppose they could sell less tickets but only if they made the tickets date specific. At the moment, they don't know when people will use the tickets they've bought - could be tomorrow, could be next month, could be next year.
BTW, they do limit the number of tickets for parties and those early morning events and the like. Those are date specific and so Disney is able to sell less tickets to these (by "less" I mean less numbers of people than are in the parks during regular hours). Of course, if Disney limited the number of tickets it sold people would complain. There's always going to be a number of people who complain no matter what Disney does. By limiting the number of tickets, it means some people will miss out and not be able to get tickets and hence would complain (understandably so). Everyone visiting during the busy holiday times will be rushing to buy their tickets as soon as they go on sale. It will be similar to how people complain about the fastpasses running out for the popular rides and how people are eager to book their fastpasses as soon as they can - even going so far as to pay extra money to stay onsite for 1 night just to be able to book fastpasses at 60 days. Prices will keep going up whilst people still come, until they reach the point when guest numbers start to noticeably drop. Then Disney will know they've reach the limit. At that point, they'll probably stop increasing ticket prices (and, no doubt, find some other way to extract more money from us). We're not there yet. The price increases are partially used to control crowds. It's the whole supply and demand thing - the parks only have a limited capacity before they become busy ("supply") and they control demand by increasing prices so that less people can afford tickets. Obviously, the ticket price increases also make more profit - this is probably the primary reason for the increases. It's no different to a lot of other companies - if demand is up, then prices rise resulting in increased profits. Disney has stated that they are going to introduce seasonal pricing to their multi-day tickets later in the year. This is primarily being done in order to control crowds; they are trying to attract more guests during the quieter periods and put people off visiting during the busier periods. No doubt they'll try and make a little bit more profit as well because, well, that's business!

Tim and Jen Tracker were saying similar stuff on their most recent vlog. It's like Disney are purposely making it more expensive to stop people going. The parks are very crowded what seems like all year round now, but they don't want to put a cap on how many people they let in the park so they increase the price.

Best not to look at what you paid in the past, I could get hung up on the £ 140 14 day wdw pass and £ 42 for Universal! If you want to go, you have to pay the price, just have to concentrate on getting the best deal possible. I think that's become part of the planning fun for most of us. One thing Disney are insuring in their price increase is that people will stay longer in the parks to get their money's worth and spend more money on food drink and merchandise.

It is a shame if some people can't afford to go, but I can't see it see it changing all the time attendances increase year on year.
The people in my group are all fairly well off, with no kids or grown up kids and having that little bit more of a disposable income, but we've had to make concessions this year, such as saving £100+ by just doing universal for a day, that sort of thing. We've also saved a fair bit through Groupon, or sales. We saved $80 just using groupon on 4 minigolf games! It all adds up.

I really do grudge the parking fees - always have and always will - I reckon that Disney gets quite enough of my hard earned cash without the need to slug me in the ribs for parking! It really is a bit of al liberty but they know people will cough up so who can really blame them. It certainly isn't going to change given the massive income they get. Those parking lots are a goldmine and must have provided some payback down the years.
