We live in the West - 1 composite door with side glass panel, 4 windows each with double openings, fairly bog standard double glazing - £3500.

There is an old expression that is very true for loads of things and also windows. Buy cheap buy twice.

The hinges and shoot bolts are where certain suppliers compromise. Then 5 years later people spend a fortune having to repair them.

Finding the middle ground is the hard bit. Not being ripped off but also getting good quality at a good price.

Fine for Tradesmen as we know the form, not so easy for others.

OP. Hope you get a good price and quality for what you want.

Our windows are about 25 years old now, I think they cost about 6k back then. We will be getting a new back door soon (never had a pvc one because of cat flap) and sadly replacing our last original sash window (circa 117 years old).

For most things I would agree. But there are two exceptions for me - kitchens and uPVC windows. The profit built into these products seems to be enormous.

The prices being quoted on here are mad in my view unless they are for something very special.
We had quotes for an IDENTICAL kitchen form various suppliers. Same doors and carcasses from the same suppler. Prices ranged for £6k to £15k. For the SAME THING. Unbelievable.

I agree, huge mark up. Thats why I favour the middle ground.
