That's not possible. All human hearts have 4 valves but there can be faults or disease. You should discuss this with your doctor to understand what the ECG showed and to see if there is a remedy.

Its most likely bicuspid aortic valve disease. Where there are 2 cusps instead of 3.

I would really recommend going to his GP and ask to be seen by a cardiologist.

Really sorry to hear your son's news. If he is more practical than academic, how about an engineering apprenticeship- OH says it was the best years of his life. The hands-on aspect suited him so much and his company put a lot of emphasis on team building so he got to do a lot of outward bound activities, camping trips, 3 peaks challenge etc as well as attending college part time.
He wasn't really interested at school and didn't get great GCSEs but got of all of his NVQs, City & Guilds, passed everything in college and then decided to go to uni as a mature student. He graduated with a first 2 years ago and is a team leader at a mechanical / aerospace company now.

Update!
I was slightly mislead!
He does have 4 valves working but he is missing two of the flap things that allow the blood flow out but shut to allow any back flow! Rather than each valve opening having 3 flaps two valves have 2 large flaps its classed as an abnormality! The doctor has said we need to appeal as his heart is functioning fully as if he had the original flaps in place with no problems. He is referring him to a specialist who will put the heart under physical pressure to prove there is no problem hence aiding our appeal but this will take time!
As ds wanted to be a PT instructor in the army he has signed up for a coaching course at college until this is resolved! So fingers crossed we will be able to pursue an army career in the future!

They said its working well but that he can never be fit for military service!
He is gutted he has never talked about doing anything else since he was little! He now has no options he's not an academic so doesn't want to go to college but doesn't want a dead end job either!
Anyone got any suggestions? He is 16
Also anyone else had to support a child dealing with rejection I'm trying to be positive but I don't know what to say? Any ideas? Or similar experiences?
Is this at selection at pirbright?

Fingers crossed for your son that he be reconsidered. If not he definately should look at an apprenticeship. Depending on what he likes the idea of he can get a great trade and be well paid for it. There is a massive skills shortage in many areas such as building, plastering, electricians etc.

About 10 years ago next door neighbours son failed a medical due to an eyesight problem. Neighbour remembers when he was a child having worn glasses (possibly) patch the optition saying any further treatment would be purely cosmetic so went back to optitions who said no problem with eyesight. Asked for a second opinion re medical and this time no problem and has had a very successful career in The RAF for the last 10 years.

Would definitely get a second opinion as we were told our ds had a heart problem on his first ecg at selection then when he went back later for a second check he was fine ! Seems a common thing ,our ds went to Harrogate coming up 2 years in September
Good luck to your son
