Virgin Dreamliner out of service.
We've booked to fly to Miami for Christmas. I think that a Dreamliner usually services this route? The aircraft as it stands at the moment is an A330-300. I flew on this aircraft last year and found it very uncomfortable. Does anyone know when the Dreamliner will be back in service?

Unfortunately I would be surprised if anybody knows the answer, we go in August and were looking forward to seeing the fuss about the Dreamliner, but now its the A330-300 and I can't see it changing, as long as the flight is on time and gets us to Miami safe and sound then I'm happy

The VA 787s will all be back in service once Rolls Royce have fixed the corrosion problem with their Trent engines and caught up with the industry-wide backlog. When will that be - who knows - ask Rolls Royce, they are not giving a running commentary.
VA seem to think it is not a short term issue as they have leased 4 A330-200 (reportedly for 4 years) and gone to the trouble of painting them in their colours and re-fitting UC, with plans for possibly adding PE later in the year. The A330-300 are not disappearing - the VA web site says they are all having a UC re-fit during this year. Which plane flies which route is an operational matter, so it doesn't follow that your flight will be changing even if 787s are available. No doubt VA will tell you if it does. It is not for 9 months yet, so anything could happen in the meantime. |

We were looking forward to the VIR Dreamliner, but we too have had a change this August going to Miami (for Orlando)
We're now happy (hopefully) about this as I've seen more complaints about the 787 uncomfortable (Econ) seating than the A330. Also the seating config of the 787 3-3-3 does not suit a family of 4. Now we are in 2 x 2 on the A330. Crews love the 787 as it has great crew bunk area, they hate the A330 (and they won't have many good words for them) due to their being zero Crew bunk/rest area. |

According to the FT, Rolls-Royce have said that problems with the Trent engines were expected to be fully resolved by 2021-22

Are you in Economy?
If so I would be hoping that I was NOT on a Dreamliner. They have more narrow seats than the rest of the fleet with the same leg room. The Dreamliner is a dream for the Airline's as it reduces costs, its really not a dream experience in Economy with either BA or Virgin

I personally would prefer to be on a type of aircraft that doesn't have a known engine problem.
