Alamo Brits - Roadside Plus

This is an extra (£75) for our hire. Reading it, it appears to be breakdown cover but includes lost keys etc...

As we will be driving from Orlando to Charleston (6 hours) I would like the cover just in case. So without this I guess that if we break down then we need to pay for recovery? I would have thought simple breakdown would be included?

If the vehicle breaksdown through mechanical defect, you're covered. If it breaks down as a result of your actions (i.e run out of fuel, puncture) then you would be responsible. Its very expensive through the rental companies so use a company like enhancedroadsideassistance/ who are based in Kissimmee, so I'm led to believe.

You are covered for normal breakdowns as Andy says.
Here is my example, and I don't take enhanced as I reckon I can fix a puncture and am savvy enough not to loose my keys ( that has fated my next trip!).
Driving back from Kennedy Space Centre on the pouring rain I hit a submerged pothole that basically wrecked the kerbside front suspension, ripping it off its mounts. We were going no further. One phone call to Alamo, and within an hour and a half we were on our way again in a replacement car that arrived on the tow truck that was taking our wreck away. Nothing to pay at all, no enhanced insurance.

As per Andy and PPM, mechanical breakdown is covered Cambsno, the car supplier isn't going to leave their knacked motor sitting on the side of the road. I had excess reimbursement for a couple of years, cost circa £55 for an annual policy, but to keep cover I had to change the motor out on a new contract every 30 days, so stopped purchasing. Had unknown wing damage on a Sebring convertible one year, Alamo didn't bat an eyelid upon return, signed off the motor with nothing to pay. By either luck or judgement we've never had self inflicted expenses in over 20 years of hiring.

If you'd feel more comfortable having excess reimbursement check Enhanced Roadside Assistance price vs the car supplier price.
