car hire but not from airport

Hi
We have booked a long stay in villa next Summer and I am currently looking at car hire options... Usually DH will happily drive out of MCO but I'm heading out there with my Mum at the start and know that this isn't an option for us. I usually am very tired and often have a migraine when landing so as a first time driver in the USA I would prefer to not drive till nicely rested... soooooo here's what I'm thinking and all thoughts appreciated:

Car on the Drive - looks great but a little expensive...?

Book hotel for first night with Magical Express then pick up car next day and drive to villa - where is best to pick up from etc? This would involve an extra night in Orlando which I'm not complaining about

Get transportation from MCO to villa on first night then pick up car next day - any recommendations on transportation and where to pick up car?

Also, there will be 2 additional drivers but not overlapping so will want to change who the additional driver is - has anyone done this? Any ideas?

Finally, if going to the villa we will need to pick up groceries - do any transportation companies offer this or are there delivery options?

Any alternative ideas welcomed...

Thanks so much!

Andy from Discount Florida Car Hire is yer man.

last year we took the Disney bus, stayed there a few days and then had a car for the middle week. got it from hotel plaza near DS and returned it there, just used Uber to go collect.

And has all the tips and tricks and what you pay him is what you pay. full stop.

He'll find a place convenient for you and sort everything out.

He's a dibber too so sure he'll be along soon.

Oh and he was the cheapest I could find.

Thanks papamouse

If you go down the Magic Express option you'll need to be staying at a Disney Hotel. Alamo have an office on site at the Disney Car Care Center (DCCC) and they operate a courtesy shuttle to/from Disney Hotels. You would just need to get your hotel reception to give them a call and book the transport for the following morning (they open at 6am).

Uber from the airport would be the cheapest option afaik but you'd be looking at about $70 (uber/en-GB/cities/orlando/)

Swapping drivers midway through a rental - will need to double check to see if this is an option. I do a package which includes up to 4 drivers and tank of fuel so that would allow you to keep all the drivers on for the duration... I also have a 2 driver package but not allowed to show that online for some reason

Not so sure on the grocery delivery though. Might be worth using Uber for that as it shouldn't cost too much to drop you off at a store.

I would do a cheapy one night in Disney. Get the Disney bus to the resort and the next morning or afternoon get the Alamo minibus to the Car Care Centre and go from there.
Andy will sort you out with whatever option you choose.

Just fired an email off to the managers at the DCCC to see what their stance is on swapping drivers midway through a rental. Will let you know once I hear back from them.

Thanks all...

Must admit Disney hotel appeals to me for Magic Bands, Fastpasses etc etc... Would people take all the luggage to Disney Care Centre?

Andy - we only need 2 drivers at a time as one leaves as the other arrives so maybe we are looking at changing cars to get new contract? Will have to see the price difference for 4 drivers as would keep things simple... Can I price this online?

Thanks again - all the advice is hugely appreciated

It would probably be easier to do two rentals but sometimes the 4 driver package can work out cheaper so might be better to do one long rental... If you could send me a quick email with your dates, times and vehicle requirements, I'll take a look for you and see which would be the cheapest option.

Just heard back from one of the managers at the DCCC. They've confirmed if you have a booking to include 2 drivers you can remove one and add another midway through a rental.
