Car hire - debit card
The booking is in my partners name as he'll be driving.
Is it okay to use my debit card for the booking and payment? (We pay on arrival) We're only taking my card with us as it's who our insurance is with so need it on us. Rest of our money is in cash as we aren't taking a lot this year. |

You will have to put yourself as lead driver plus partner as additional.
As an aside, and for emergencies, I'd always take more than one card with us, as per an often used phrase on here..." Just in case". What happens if your card blocks, gets lost/ stolen. I know this is off topic,so please feel free to advise me to go . Just wanted to help ensure you have a stress free holibub! |

no, it's not okay debit cards are accepted as long as you have a return plane ticket. but the Card used at time of pick-up MUST be in the name of the lead driver. Unless they overlook this, you won't get the car. as PP mentionned, you need to be the lead driver (cancel and rebook), assuming you have a drivers license and you'll need to pay for an additionnal driver. Thanks everyone.
I can't cancel and rebook as the price is a lot more expensive now. I will just transfer the money to partners bank account before we go then I guess. |

when you pay on arrival, rental agency will hold the money, plus a security deposit
payment will be processed after you return the car you might need to have a significantly larger amount of cash on your card. Agencies like Alamo will hold the full rental amount (what's on the "estimated charges" on your rental agreement) + 20% so if your rental is £300 they will hold the equivalent of £360 on your card. there is no hold on the prepaid rentals. |

Hope the ok doesn't mind my question.
We have one credit card which is in my wife's name. I'm the only named driver on the contract with Alamo she doesn't drive. Will this be a problem? Does the Credit card need to have my name on it? |
