Naples or Anna Maria Island

If you were exploring the Gulf Coast, where would you base, Naples or Anna Maria Island ?

I would base myself midway between both area's otherwise you would be looking at a long drive each day, 2 and half hours to 3 each way.

What do you mean by exploring the Gulf Coast?
It is long (700 miles); are you planning to visit many locations along it’s length or looking for just 1 area of it to explore?
If planning to visit many locations, I’d split your stay into different locations; otherwise you’ll spend most of your days on the road.

For what it’s worth, we prefer Naples to AMI; easier access to other attractions/areas, nicer feel for us.

We visited AMI once; it was nice but not special enough to pull us back since; whereas on one of our trips each year, we always make the drive down to Naples for a mini break within our holiday.
