Mobile Park runs... but I can’t run

There’s a local park run starting up in a few weeks, and I’ve been thinking about going. I’ve really never been very good, and about a year ago I ran about 8/10 doors up to our neighbours house to give them something and thought I was going to pass out when I got back I was thinking maybe something like joining a park run would help, but I don’t know if this is the type of thing you can only do if you can actually run? I know I’d likely have to do a combination of running and walking, but I don’t want to look stupid

You Start out with small steps, if you can only jog for a little bit then have to walk till you feel ok or have to stop till you feel ok then continue good on you, keep at it and you will find you will progress and nobody will think you are silly, we all had to start somewhere and the fact you want to do it is brilliant.

Lots of Park Runners walk/jog. Go at your own pace. You certainly won’t luck silly.

What about trying Couch to 5K. It really is good, and it works.

Our local Parkrun encourages walkers to participate.

Maybe try and do a bit of Couch to 5k before... there will be loads of people that run/walk.

Although I suggest you start nearer the back otherwise you may get flattened by the fast runners!

Go for it... our park run is really encouraging

Parkrun encourages people of all abilities to take part and if anything it is more geared towards people who want to get fit.
Even if you walked the whole 5k you would come last and don’t forgot you are going way faster than those on the sofa 👍🏻

Parkrun is a brilliant place to start running. There are a lot of runners, jog/walkers and walkers at our Parkrun as well. The best bit about Parkrun is you will meet other people at a similar running stage as you and as you improve you gets pb. I would also recommend Couch to 5k.

I have a few nearby park runs, my local is nasty (half is a steep hill) but lots of walkers and your never actually last - there’s always a tail walker
The one I prefer has plenty of quick walkers and walk runners, it’s very supportive, the marshalls all stay and cheer till the last ‘runner’ is through, as said build it slowly and just do what feels right, make sure to scoot to the back of the pack at the start and listen to the Marshalls if there’s anywhere people ‘lap’ you (ours has a keep left section) and don’t forget to register for a barcode, and bring it every week (on paper or order a keyfob one) then you can ‘race yourself’ each week for a better time
I really enjoy them it’s a perfect way to start off a weekend!

I love parkun and they happily encourage walkers, joggers & runners. There is always a tail walker who's job it is to finish last so no matter how quick or slow you go you will never be last

York park run has pacers, including run 1 min, walk 1 min for those doing couch to 5k.

Park run is a very welcoming place and you won’t be judged by anyone
