May rethink plans for next Sept 2020
We have booked accom in orlando for Sept 2020
With it being hurricane season and reading all the posts on here about Dorian i think I may change to may or june I know when we last went in Sept we missed the fall out of the hurricanes by a couple of days Anyone else considering this

No. We’ve been loads of times in September and only once caught up in a hurricane. It’s my preferred time of year and will continue to be.

I am starting to regret my September decision, first the BA strikes (I know that is nothing to do with September), then this. It feels doomed.

We usually go right at end of September or in October but couldn’t this year as dd thought she was going to be graduating.
I remember watching Irma and worrying but we went end of September. This time we go in 2 weeks and I’m edgy! If we decide to go next year whether she is graduating or not I think we will go later - she can get someone to take pics 😂😂😂 |

There have been tropical storms or hurricanes in September most years. It is just good fortune that above posters have missed them

We were there two years ago during Irma fortunately staying on site and couldn't fault Disney at all. You just have to listen to the information provided and ensure that you take the necessary precautions. If you think of the beast from the east that the UK endured then that's what I would compare it to.

That's a slightly misleading graph. The title says Hurricanes at WDW, but the data refers to tropical storms affecting all of Florida, not Orlando, not even central Florida. We've been affected by two hurricanes or tropical storms while visiting WDW (in August). In 2004 we had a three day delay in flying to Orlando because of Hurricane Charley. Shortened our holiday which was a bit sad, but we had a good insurance payout and the usual brilliant time when we eventually got to Orlando. Then in 2007 a tropical storm hit the north east coast of Florida and actually improved the weather for us in Orlando, as it was a little cooler and dryer than usual August weather.
If all things are equal, avoiding tropical storm season will reduce the small chance of being directly and significantly affected by severe weather while you are in Orlando, but the chance of that happening is small enough that I wouldn't prioritise avoiding TS season over other things. No way I would miss my child's graduation ceremony or a similar important family event just to avoid TS season. |
