My DH’s Passport went through the wash on the day he recieved it 😬 my fault of course for not checking his pocket! It was fine and works through the automated machines!

Personally I wouldn’t take the risk of keeping it and finding out at the airport that it’s not accepted.

This happened to us the day before a beach holiday. We did the 3 hour drive to the airport anyway to take a chance but we got refused and were not allowed on the flight.

Well it's had all weekend sitting under the towel rack, and whilst everything is intact and still readable it isn't quite as flat as it used to be. I think it's enough to raise eyebrows at border control, so am throwing it into my bag now to take with me today, and once I get to my desk I will be hitting the passport website.

Let's home timing is in my favour, as you can see from my signature, how long I have to go. And I'm in London, which is probably a busier office?

I washed all 3 of ours in 2005, they were only 3 months old, they dried ok and had no pages stuck together, we used them for the next 9.5 years for 21 trips with no issues inc 8 trips to Orlando, and every time got asked which idiot put them through the washing machine! Not sure I’d risk it again though!

I washed all 4 of ours once. I left them in the pocket of a bag. I am always in such a rush to pack up when I get home. Had to replace all of them. A very expensive mistake !

Passport office seen to very quick now so I am sure yours will come back in time.

You can make an appointment by phone to Lodge in person but with turnaround at less than a week I'd use he checking service today and get the replacement by post . It's been 5 days for a few months now.

No electronic chips in Passports in 2005, so not a true comparison unfortunately
