Base for Burbank/Hollywood and Santa Monica
Hi
So, we are looking for a hotel that will accommodate us in a family room (2a,2c) with breakfast included or even a suite style room with a kitchen in room for 4 nights. This would be our third stop with another two moves afterwards, so would rather stay in one place rather than split the two. Ideally, we would either like to stay in Santa Monica or Marina del Rey and drive in to the city, but prices are quite high for somewhere we would probably just be resting our heads (£1100 average for 4 nights) Has anybody got any hotel recommendations that would cover the above? Edit:I have found Hyatt house Manhattan beach, which has apart-hotel style rooms + breakfast included for £778.Would Manhattan beach be too far to travel and explore the areas above? Edited at 02:20 PM. |

I suspect Manhattan beach would be too far out to visit Hollywood, Burbank etc. Although only around 20 miles, the LA traffic when we visited was horrendous during the week.
That said, we had based ourselves in Marina del Rey, and had a full day in the Hollywood area on the Sunday. Have to say that traffic was minimal, and we had an early morning (09:30) tour at Warner Bros, which only took us 30 mins to reach. We then parked up at Hollywood Highland shopping centre, which is on the Walk of Fame, and we could also see the Hollywood sign which saved us driving up there. As DD wanted to drive along Mulholland Drive, we did this, then had a drive through Beverly Hills before returning to Marina del Rey. If you want to get to downtown LA, there is a metro service that runs from Santa Monica centre to downtown LA, which runs every 12 minutes during the day, taking around 50 minutes. We stayed in a one bed condo at The Shores complex, which seemed to be more working people than holiday lets, so the pool was very uncrowded during the day. It was also a very short stroll over to a Cheesecake Factory located on the Marina front! Prices currently looking between £230-£250/night, but a really nice location and condo. You can book through the usual UK hotel sites - check Trivago to get an idea of prices.

We stayed in the doubletree suites a few blocks back from Santa Monica beach. It had a separate bedroom and a lounge with 2 sofa beds. Might be able to get it for around your price, I did a dummy booking for late June and it came up with about $345 per night.

We stayed at the Embassy suites in Glendale. Wasn't too exciting but had a living room with sofa bed, 2 doubles in bedroom and a fridge and possibly a microwave... And a free, reasonable breakfast. Some nights it had free drinks and snacks in the bar for an hour. It was less than 1 minutes drive to the highway/freeway/motorway that took us straight to Burbank in about 15 mins. Can't remember now how long it took to drive to everywhere else but it seemed a good location for our budget. I do have a trip report with more info in it about the hotel. Think it cost between £800-900 for 5 nights.

Hi - take a look at the Sea Shore motel in Santa Monica. We've stayed there 3 times when needed a family room and for SM it is reasonable. Also has the advantage of free parking.
A dummy booking for 4 nights 10th August gives tax inclusive costs of £580 for a 2 double bed room up to £970 for the Full Kitchen 1 bedroom suite (2 beds in bedroom and a double sofa bed in lounge) - this is what we always booked. |

Hi, we got back last week from our stay in L.A, we did a split stay between Santa Monica and Pasadena. We much preferred being nearer the studios and Hollywood hills which surprised us! The beach area was great though. Pasadena is beautiful but perhaps a little far out. Burbank would be my 1st choice when we visit again, it’s a nice safe area and we loved all the studios and views were amazing and a very short Uber to Universal, Hollywood area. The Tangerine gets good reviews on here.
