UPDATE: Have today received a chargeback through Tesco CC for VH car hire. The transaction has taken 5 weeks from submission to Tesco Bank, but at least I have it back. Now for the flights chargeback, submitted at the same time.

i cancelled my rental with VH on the 17/03/20 in the VH store, i had an email on monday to say they wanted to pay my refund, Yay!

Then another email on tuesday to say they didn't have my payment details on record and could i please supply them with bank details, but this of course will take a little longer.

I already have a CC chargeback already submitted, just hedging my bets.

We received our chargeback from Post Office CC on 12 June for our car hire with VH. It took about 2 weeks from submitting the relevant paperwork. Yesterday we had an email from VH to say that our refund would be with us in 1-10 days. Not sure what happens if they pay it when we have already had the chargeback.

If VH do reimburse you as well just send them a message saying :-

"Because of all the current Covid issues we are experiencing a higher demand than usual. Your call is important to us so please hang on the line for 2 hours before we cut you off. Refunds are currently taking 15 days to process and 90 days to pay back. Don't expect any further response"

Seriously - your CC provider should balance the books.

We are in the same situation & I think I’ll wait for VH to contact me & then send them a standard reply that only says my refund will be made in 60 days then wait 120 days to pay them back!

On a serious note I think I’ll contact my CC & see what they say - we will need to pay one of them back.
Interesting to see what we end up doing.

When you raise a chargeback, your bank will usually credit your account/card relatively quickly however Virgin have 30* days to acknowledge it and a further 60* days to gather evidence and challenge it. If they've processed the refund in the meantime, when Virgin successfully challenge the chargeback, your bank/card will be debited the amount.
