Power of Attorney advice please
Hi, this week I’m going to do lasting power of attorney with my parents. I’m going to do it online and having never done this before, I thought I would ask on here for other dibbers experiences. Is it easy to do? How long did it take to complete and is there anything I should be aware of?
TIA

I helped my mum with hers. Make sure you print off the guidelines for what you need to do and I’m sure you will find it easy to do yourself then.
If your parents are eligible for certain benefits or credits you may not even need to pay to put them in place. No need for a solicitor at all. |

There are two types one for finance and property and another for health and welfare, you need to do separate ones for each.

I did my Mum’s online I found it very easy to do , after filling it in online printed it off and got a close friend of my Mum to witness her signature and sign herself to say my Mum understood what she was signing . As my Mum was on Pension Credit it didn’t cost anything. My friend has just had hers done at a Solicitor’s and cost £400 , so worth doing it yourself online.

It's a few years since I did one for my parents, but I remember it being pretty straightforward.
We just did the financial, I didn't see the point of the medical one, I was their next of kin anyway and trusted that the NHS would always work in their best interest and listen to me.

I just did both LPAs for my mum (finance and health), by doing it online and printing off about 22 pages for each one was really straightforward. I really can't understand people paying a solicitor when it is so simple, unless of course they have complications.
Now me and my wife are going to do ours. Edited at 11:29 PM. |

It's pretty straight forward online but make sure you have plenty of printer ink as there's a lot of pages, especially if doing both financial and health ones for two people!

Don't forget that they also need to be registered. It's no good doing them if you don't register them. Agree with others though, as long as you take some time, it's fairly straightforward.

Mine are being redone and my will (via a solicitor ) as I don’t want NHS to keep me in a coma etc and my sister can flick that switch which is so incredibly important to me - even when my Father was dying in hospital so pleased he had completed a solid one through solicitor as we got him home for his last hours (against NHS advice ) - simple ones are fine DIY but if some things are important to you the see a solicitor (2 LPA and a will for c£300 with a solicitor = my price of mind if and when the times come so priceless for me)
