World expo 2020 Dubai
I have purchased a package via BA for Jan 2021 to visit Dubai for the sole purpose of taking my daughter ( a yr 3 architect student) for her 21st birthday.
I have just looked at the world expo site and they have applied for an extension to the opening dates. Where do I stand with BA if this is nit being held during our dates? We’d struggle to get any other time as she plans to work abroad for a year. Thanks

Are BA selling the package as a “visit the Dubai Expo” or just a regular package? If it’s the latter, you would have to try and move the dates, and pay any fees or fare changes which are due, or take the hit and lose whatever you’ve paid.

Thank you, it’s just a regular package flight / hotel but hotel area chosen to be nearest to the Expo.
Will just have to play it out and hope for the best when dates are confirmed.

The new proposed dates for Expo 2020 are being mentioned as October 1st 2021 to March 31st 2022. The BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) are meeting on April 21st to discuss the change of dates. So it might be worth keeping an eye on that date for news of possible changes.
At this stage I would say that BA would treat it as per the terms and conditions if travel is back to normal by the time you are due to go. BA are providing a flight from London to Dubai plus the hotel accomodation and would probably point out that they cannot be held responsible for changes in what you hope to see on your trip - but at this stage no one can predict what may happen. Thanks I totally understand that it will be upsetting to miss out but these things can’t be helped. Because if where she is with her course going then would be very doubtful. Such a shame we’ve been talking about how amazing it’d be and this would be a surprise fir her birthday in sept.

It is such a shame that lovely ideas like this for a birthday surprise are in doubt due to CV. If your trip goes ahead without the chance to visit Expo I am sure your daughter will be amazed by the architecture. Just trying to think of ideas of sights to see - the Dubai Frame is an interesting one, Burj Khalifa, the Palms and some of the hotels including the Burj al Arab. I am sure other Dibb members will be along with loads of other ideas too.
Hope it works out for you. |

Thank you she definitely prefers commercial architecture over residential, I think there is more scope to be excessive and creative.
You are right it’d be a huge shame but nothing we can do about it and I’m sure we’ll have an amazing time.
