I paid a £100.00 deposit for 2 of us to go to Spain in September with Thomson ... the rest of the balance is due In a couple of weeks but we have decided we don't want to go ... can I just not pay the remaining balance and lose the deposit or will I have cancellation fees to pay or anything else does anyone know ?

Check the T&Cs. It will give timelines/applicable fees for amendments and cancellations. Suspect there won't be any fees but check first before you cancel.

I think £100 would be a low deposit with TUI so if you wanted to cancel you would need to pay the remainder of the deposit.

No if I didn't want to go I would not pay the balance. In the grand scheme of things, it is a relatively small loss. I cannot imagine that you would have more to pay, how would they make you? This was your deposit and a deposit is what you lose when you change your mind about something.

TUI offer a low deposit option where you pay a small deposit when booking and then the rest of the deposit at a later date (I think it's 12 weeks after booking). If you decide to cancel the holiday then their terms and conditions state that you still have to pay the rest of the deposit.
I have read on some forums that customers have been sent threatening letters and the 'debt' has been handed over to collection agencies if they've not paid the remainder of the deposit. I've not read reports like this during the pandemic though and I'd hope that their approach isn't so heavy handed. |
