Mobile How easy to drive around Florida?

I have never driven abroad before (UK) and was thinking of booking a villa and car hire for when we eventually book, rather than staying onsite at Disney.

How difficult is it? Any tips or advice greatly appreciated.

At the risk of being accused of some self-promotion as I've added some to this you might find the DIBB guide useful

https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/Dri...-USA-p-84.html

Most of us regular drivers who contribute to the forum are a friendly bunch so just ask away with any further questions. It makes a nice change to post something positive - we were due to fly tomorrow

If you can manage a British motorway, you can manage driving in America. Only thing is both DS1 and DD were disconcerted by how soft the suspension was and the accompanying body-roll was compared to British vehicles.

Just had some weeding to do.

Might be exposing myself to "stealth boasting" comments but tomorrow would have been our 37th visit and we've hired a car every time before that so I guess I've driven in excess of 50,000 miles over there.

In all those trips we've not stayed in a WDW hotel for a single night so don't ask me about DDP. Haven't been to a park since 2010 (apart from MVMCP in 2014) so I know nothing about Fastpasses. And as for Uber - that's some sort of taxi service isn't it?

That's why I stick to subjects and experiences that I know a little about.

It would have also been our 14th visit to a villa on Highgate Park so we are very much villa fans. Happy to post my standard "why a villa" post as well if you like.

Mick

its really easy. even easier than driving in the uk!

when i first went over, i was bricking it after a bad experience driving in france back when i was younger. i needntve worried though. with automatic cars and satnav, you mostly have to just concentrate on the actual driving. and most roads are dual carriageway at a minimum.

Can I jump in and ask if there's an easy way to get cash ahead of arrival that's in small enough denominations to use for tolls?

All you need is a $20 bill and at the first toll as for a roll of quarters as change from the change given lane

You don't know how happy I am to be posting good things again

This is the first toll as you leave MCO on the 417 south.

If you want to pay cash just keep right and give the attendant no more than a $20 bill and ask for change. Most plazas on main carriageways are manned. Most on the off ramps aren't so you'll need change to pay at tolls like this - j2 off the 417

Or you can of course use Sunpass
