West coast tickets and excursions
Morning all, we have started planning a west coast trip for next summer visiting LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Monterey and a couple of 1 night stops on route, just wondering if everyone buys tickets before travelling, I would get Disney and universal before but what about other things like LA tour, San Diego Zoo, Alcatraz, etc, any advice welcome😀

Hi definitely Alcatraz I think it’s 90 days out. We did the evening tour as it was darkening, super.

I buy tickets when Expedia and ebookers have their 25% off sales. Most recently and most appropriate for your trip, I bought USS Midway, San Diego Trolley Tour and Warner Brothers Studio tour. You can also often buy Monterey whale watching trips via Travelzoo and Groupon. We always save lots of money this way and I like to be able to spread the cost so it works for us!
Have a great trip |

You’re welcome! Usually someone posts on here when there’s a sale on so that’s how I first found out about it! They have tours and tickets for practically every city though so I’ve used in this country, Florida, Croatia etc. Some good bargains to be had.
There are some things which can only be booked direct. Someone already mentioned Alcatraz as an example. Hearst Castle is another along your route. Another tip is to sign up to their websites as sometimes deals are available |

We did a West Coast road trip last summer and the only things I pre booked before we went was Alcatraz (definitely needed advance booking), bike hire (not needed), Whale Watching (depending on time of year you go but gets busy in peak times), Warner Bros Studio Tour (again if going in the summer and have a set day in mind it is worth pre booking as they do get busy)

Alcatraz available at 90 days out. If you don’t book in advance, it is highly unlikely that you will get there.
Hearst can be booked in advance 60 days. I highly recommend a Gosandiego card.. in our case it was a Gosandiego 5 and we absolutely hammered it (see the trip report in my signature).
