Is this strange?

We lived overseas for a while and rented our house out. We moved back to the UK five years ago, moved back into our house which had been empty for six months to a year or so by then.

A few days ago I received a letter from DVLA addressed to who I am sure was the last tenant in the property. Then yesterday we received something from the AA (possibly a starter pack) addressed to the same person.

In the last five years I have never received any post for this person, maybe the odd piece of junk mail. So does this seem strange?

I have put both back in the post with “not at this address” on the envelope.

It does seem a bit odd. Might it be worth checking what is on your credit reference file in case their details are still associated with it.

Alternatively more like it's their car tax and insurance reminder and they have forgotten to update their records.

Ignore the last bit. Re read and realised it was 5 years ago !

Check credit ref and If still associating with it you can put a not one it to say they moved out a while ago...

It does seem odd, but then again there's always that one place we forget to inform when moving if we don't communicate with them much.

5 years does seem a long time to have not heard from the DVLA / AA though.

DVLA is an odd one not to inform though isn’t it? It would be one of the first ones on my list due to the legal requirement / hefty fine.

It is on my mind as they were not honest tenants, hardly ever paid rent and I had to take legal action from Australia to get them out.

I have had similar in the past.

After acouple of communications returned ‘not known at this address’ I opened one and rang the sender. They then stopped.

You could perhaps contact the dvla, quote your vehicle reg number and ask if any other vehicles are registered at your address, then take it from there.

I was concerned about address fraud which goes on.

Hope it proves to be a storm in a teacup.

I have just looked into how to contact them but they are only answering correspondence (both phone and email) if you are a key worker. I will just have to cross my fingers that it isn’t anything sinister. It seemed a bit odd to get two car related correspondences within a few days after nothing for over five years.

I would agree with another poster and check your bank account. A couple of years ago I had a starter pack come though the post from the AA with my address and different names - I have lived here for nearly 20 years. I checked my bank and there was a payment taken for a year's family subscription along with a payment to Octopus Energy and something else which I can't think off. It was very strange as all 3 were services rather than goods.
