Mobile Puppy!

So, after several years of pestering by the kids and I we have finally persuaded my better half to agree to getting a dog. Very excited!

I grew up with dogs, though not had one for quite a while now. It will be a new experience for the rest of the family. Though kids have been desperate for years - but they don't really know what is involved.

Now we are doing a lot of reading / watching to pick up how to train etc. Been watching a lot of Zac George on youtube - enjoying his series where he got his new pup and followed from day 1.

The point of this thread is really just for a bit of a conversation about dogs / pups and any lessons you learnt / what you wish you had done differently? Any useful youtube vids to watch?

Our first 2 hurdles are 1) the pup is in Wales. Going to be tricky to collect! And 2) socialisation is going to be a bit restricted after we do get the pup. Not ideal as we would want to do as much as possible. Though I have found 1 puppy class planning to restart at the beggining of July.

Be very careful, lots of scammers at the moment ... and puppy farmers. And prices are sky high at the moment... triple or quadruple the prices they were before lockdown. Always be dubious if you are asked To pay out large amounts of money without seeing the pups. You must see the puppy with it’s mother even if it’s through a window...

Exactly
Not to put a dampener on it all for you but puppy farmers and scammers are loving social distancing
I know of someone who got pup dropped off and it’s not even the breed they paid for, it’s a mix

On a nicer note
We have a 5 month old pup who we got just before all this kicked off but it has been a challenge to fully socialise her
What I will say is don’t let them do anything you don’t want them to keep doing
For example on furniture, feeding from table, you only need to do it once and that’s it

Thank you both. Without being too detailed I found this person via facebook. I could scroll through their last several years of history.

Everything they have said matched up.

We wanted a cross breed, lab x collie - which i found quite hard to track down.

And yes prices are high, though a lot less for a X breed than single breed.

We have not visited for obvious reasons. But when I asked to do a video call to see the pups and their mum they called me up 5 mins later. We talked to them and watched the mum and all the pups together for quite a while.

Done other calls since. And had plenty of other pics and vids as well.

We have paid a 1/3 deposit. Rest on collection - which seems reasonable.

I am about as sure as I can be they are genuine.

That sounds good 👍🏻
That is an unusual mix, what made you chose that?
My daughter has a choc lab and she has a great temperament
She jumps and pulls a lot though but she is only young

Would love to see a photo

My sister had that X and it ended up living with my folks and i was there for about 4 years at the same time.

Obviously every dog is different, but we are hoping to get some of the similar traits in our pup as my sisters dog.

Collie for the energy, excitement, intelligence and playful nature, combined with the loving friendly family orientated chilled out side of a lab which maybe just takes the edge of that Collie energy.

Though the possible downside is just a highly intelligent eating machine.

Omg, lovely looking dog
Do you have a name?
Socialisation wise as soon as he can go out try and get him to see bikes, pushchairs, motorbike, cats etc
Household noises, knock the door, ring the bell, get the ironing board out
It’s quite a small window- until they are around 18 weeks old to get them used to as much as possible
