Anyone stayed at Dreams resorts in the Dom Rep or similar?
Evening,
Looking ahead to next year when the DW will celebrate a milestone birthday. She wants a two week relaxing holiday on a lovely beach. Having had a very quick look and the Dreams resorts (Bavaro and Punta Cana) look lovely for our budget (£2k each). Anyone stayed in these? We’re looking at the preferred upgrade also so any thoughts on this would be great too. Also, feel free to recommend any other Countries/resorts etc that fit into the budget. Many thanks. My sister and her hubby go to Dom Republic a lot. She has said that resort wise Bavaro beach is the best for activities and been able to go out and about.
However their favourite resort so far is Sensatori Punta Cana. Although she says the beach at punta cana isn't great for swimming/ snorkeling if that's your thing. She also said that anyone wanting to experience the real Caribbean should look at Hilton La Romana which used to be a dreams hotel where they have stayed. |

Did Dreams Punta Cana a couple of years ago. On the face of it, it is very nice but scratch the surface and it has its flaws. We didn’t like the culture there tbh. It’s okay for sea, sand and sunshine but we prefer other Caribbean islands.

We did Dreams Punta Cana for our honeymoon 8 years ago.
The resort itself was nice, it was on a windy section of beach and the customer service there wasn’t great. Very hit and miss x |

Can’t really put my finger on it. Don’t get me wrong the place is clean and food reasonably good. The service was a bit inconsistent. I think the things that stood out for me is that they allowed local craft sellers and hawkers in a couple of nights a week and they were quite aggressive and you had to walk through them to get anywhere.
We much preferred Antigua and Barbados but they are a bit more expensive. Suppose we prefer cricket, reggae and steel bands to American football, baseball and Lady Gaga. I wouldn’t dismiss it because some people love it. It does seem a bit like the Americans version of how we view Spain. |
