Selling DVC - Firpta agent?

We are selling 2 of our 3 contracts and so far have accepted an offer on one.

Of course given a wide choice I picked the worst resale agents who are very put out if you don't accept a low ball offer.

Anyhow their Firpta agent has been in touch offering 3 levels of service.

1. Pay $250 to pay the 15%, get nothing back.

2. Pay $1200 and it includes the ITIN.

3. Pay $750 and I think they handle the tax.

All seem fairly excessive to me. I wondered if anyone had any advice?

Nancy's name comes up a lot on these boards and seems to be recommended. I have no experence though so cant comment.

The post is from 2020 so I imagine the fees will be higher but I cant see it being as high as your quote.

I used Wade Johnson in 2021 I think
Cost was $500 for him to fill the forms in for an ITIN and to get the 15% back for me.
As mine was on the tail end of Covid, I completed the sale in about Feb 2021 and I got the 15% back in July 2022.

I have been in correspondence with Nancy recently and she does take quite some time to answer emails so don't give up yet She got quite shirty with me when I sent a chaser

We dealt with her in 2017 as we were purchasing from an international member and needed an ITIN. From memory the service was good and all completed without delays.

Since then though the situation and the rules appear to have changed. In 2017 Nancy was able to verify our passports over Skype, but apparently that is no longer the case and you now have to arrange a F2F appointment with the US Embassy/Consulate for this to be done. Unfortunately we will have to do this at some point as ITINs have to be renewed if there has been no activity in the last 3 years Also I understand the timescales for FIRPTA are now quite lengthy

We bought from an International member back in 2015 and didn’t need an ITIN.

We then looked at selling in 2022 and dealt with Nancy she was slow. At that time we did not need to go to an Embassy. It would have been four adults from Aberdeen to London so not cheap. We eventually decided not to sell but one day will have to go through this and it makes you wonder if it’s worth claiming money back!
