Question Belfast sink

For those that have a Belfast sink is it set in real wood worktop, granite or normal kitchen worktop?
I would love real wood but dh is not keen says too much upkeep. Also we would need draining board really

We have a Belfast sink and it is set in real wood.

It is not a lot of upkeep, we oil the worktops once maybe twice a year and it takes minutes. We don't have a draining board, but you can get them in the wood.

Yes, hence no draining board.

We have an inset ceramic sink, similar to a belfast but it has a front bit of worktop set in granite. We have grooves cut in the granite but I bought a plastic drainer to sit over the granite as I got sick of the limescale in this area! Probably wouldn't look as bad if you have a light colour but I have black!

I've never had wood and wanted it until the kitchen fitter said I had to oil both sides 3 times before he even fitted it, let alone the maintenance. It would also have the same number of joins as laminate. I also saw a friends worktop - she had to plane it recently as it had got so marked. I ended up going with a granite called Silestone which we are very happy with!

Another one with a Belfast sink, a double one. Our kitchen is Ikea. Worktop is from Ikea too. Just a normal grey with a wooden strip on the edge. The sink overlaps the worktop at the sides. I love the double sink, chuck the dishes in one, rinse in the other. I only hand wash my sharp knives as they have wooden handles and the pan I boil potatoes in as I think the potato can build up in the mesh in the dishwasher. I also wash skillets in the sink. We've probably had our sink about 10 years and my only gripe with it is there are lots of small cracks/scores which have gone a bit grey. I scoot bleach every so often which helps clean it up but it doesn't look like new now. I suppose all sinks show wear and tear after time.

Carpenters and Kitchen fitters love Belfast Sinks!

The reason being is we can go back after a year or so and replace the worktops

You have to be so careful to get them sealed in properly if wood or laminate is used. One tiny gap in the sealant and the problems start.
Not so much of an issue with granite etc.

They do look nice though

My son has a wooden worktop, no drainer, but they are very careful with putting mats out for hot dishes etc. It was already in the house when they bought it. Looks lovely, and I don't think they have had any issues with it. They also have a dishwasher.

Ours is set in granite, we also have solid wood which I ruin because I use kitchen cleaner and this takes the colour out of it, I wish I ‘d got just granite

I have a 'proper' Belfast sink I bought from a junkshop, it's big enough to bath a Labrador in and probably came from a school chemistry lab. I don't have a 'drainer' because the washing up bowl and the drainer both fit inside the sink. I have granite each side and no problems with that. Obviously mine isn't inset as it's too big, it's just on brick pillars. I love it - do get the biggest one you can if you get one
