Update - Id decided to renew the passport after our Feb trip but this week I got a text message from the passport office saying that after brexit passport rules will change and I might need to renew sooner than expected.
As dh and I only renewed our passports in the last two years the text must relate to dds passport. I’ve just had a look online and reading about the changes I took it to mean that the added months nolonger apply as a passport must not be over 10 years old. Great, kids passports are only for 5 years so not a problem. However, I just filled in the passport check page and it returned a big r3d box saying the passport wouldn’t be valid. I’m glad I checked as I’ll sort out the renewal now but I’m not convinced that it’s actually giving accurate information. What do you think? |

Is this something to do with needing to have at least 6 months on your passport to visit the EU after brexit?
Says she who knows nothing. |

I think that if we leave without a deal you might need 6 months left on your passport to travel to Europe.

Yeah I think you need at least 6 months left on passports after brexit and there would only be 5 months left I guess on your DD’s?

Norway isn't an EU member state.

That was the bit I was puzzling about. Wondered if it was to do with their deal with the EU which we would no longer be part of.

Confusing isn’t it. Luckily it doesnt matter to us as it’s our Florida trip that’s in February and I was using Norway as an example on the passport site. But for those that really need the info it’s confusing.
The Norway info page says this which seems contradictory to me, maybe I’m reading it wrong. |

I've just been looking at DS's passport as it expires in mid-January and we're going to Rome on the 30th October.
Nothing seems to be clear to say if it's outbound or inbound travel after the 31st October, but at the moment I think I'm going to take my chances, look at the fact that we'll enter while we're still members and we're incredibly unlikely to be leaving on the 31st without a deal. Feels a bit nailbiting though! |

But don't you need 6 months left on your passport when going to USA too? If DD's passport expires in March and you're going to USA in Feb, will it definitely be valid?
