Kids with different surnames

Hi just looking for some advice please.
We are travelling to Florida in November as a family. My daughter had a different surname to me ( although her dad is also travelling) will I need a birth certificate. I have seen some adverts, albeit for Manchester but saying I may need a birth certificate. I have never needed it before and tried to contact British airways but constantly on hold. We are also travelling with my daughters friend which I know we need a letter from her parents.
Has anyone had any experience of this before thanks

Edited at 11:58 AM. Reason: Spelling

My daughter has different surname than me, I was challenged one time when coming home n was told I must bring a birth certificate when travel. Since then I always travel with a copy of the birth certificate with me just in case. And have asked many times to provide it, and they are happy enough with the photocopy of it. So if it’s not too much trouble, bring a copy with u. It really depends one who’s behind the desk to do the checking.

You wont need a birth certificate if the father is travelling with you.

Not being awkward, but where is her mother? You may need a letter giving her consent too. The birth certificate needs to be the full version, not the short one.

I am the mother but my daughter has her dads surname we are travelling as a family but at Manchester my Friend needed the birth certificate of her son even though the father was also travelling. I’m not sure if it’s certain counties or airlines just wanted to make sure and can’t get through to BA there is at least 39 min wait time today

I wouldn't wait on the phone to speak to anyone. Just take it with you if you want reassurance, but it is highly unlikely you would ever be asked for it.
