There was a guy stabbed to death by where I live in Birmingham that never made the national news. It was so sad to drive past where it happened and see all the flowers and tributes left for him - senseless waste of life.

This country is broken and there doesn't appear to be a way to fix it.

Scares the hell out of me. My husband is also with the Met. It’s an everyday occurrence finding kids with knifes! I have twin 11 year old boys who start secondary school in September and honestly I feel so scared! They both want to get the bus but I dread it! 😕

The Police and the judges can only work within the confines of the law that is decided upon. They don’t create the law but are bound by it. Judges can’t hand out sentences that go against their legal guidelines nor can a police officer be in 5 places at once because of low staffing and lack of funds for more police officers (not overtime for overworked officers).

The answer is simple. We need to toughen up. Change the law so that anyone, and I mean anyone, caught carrying any type or style of knife in public gets a five year prison sentence. Bring back the right for police to stop and search on suspicion...

It seems the kids can do whatever they want, as they know that the chances are they will get away with it.

Just watching the police programs on tv, the work it takes to arrest someone, the waiting for trail etc, only for the culprit to get a suspended sentence and allowed back onto the streets.

Until we change the system and really hand out tough punishment , I cannot see things improving.

Absolutely agree - too lenient punishments, no real deterrent!

Nothing is going to change until punishments become REAL deterrents!

It's only going to get worse otherwise, the youngsters involved are growing up in this climate with younger ones coming along growing up seeing this as the norm...
