Flights to Venice buying the empty seat

Hi all

Fingers crossed cruising out of Venice next year and have already booked mine and DH seat on plane with BA. 3 3 formation so Selected window and middle. Does anyone know if you can buy the third seat just to have it empty? Seems like it would be a money Spinner for airlines at the moment and I would certainly do it. Or if I booked separately a flight for my DD and reserved the seat and she “Missed” the flight. Would there be implications ? Would she have to check in still? Would this work ? Flight and seat without luggage of course still very reasonable ? Ps. Flying back with easy jet from Rome.

Why don’t you look at flying business class over. You get the middle seat left empty so you would have the window and aisle. Might be worth checking.

I don't think it'll cause a problem as such if you bought it for a 3rd person on a different booking and they didn't turn up but I believe the airline can resell it so there's a chance you end up wasting your money.

If you book a return and the outbound is not used ie they don't turn up to board BA will cancel the return leg. Best bet is to ring BA and explain what you want but it may be cheaper ypu both to fly Club Europe than pay for 3 economy seats.

I'd just pay for business then the middle seat is blocked out for you anyway, you have more leg room, a lounge and nicer food.

Virgin at one point a few years back started doing this very thing. It didn't last long though so I would assume either take up was low or that there was never any availability on the flight. As others have said see if you could get Club Europe upgrade at a reasonable price
