Oh lucky son, what a great time he will have.
I know just how you are feeling, my eldest DD went to Canada travelling for 1yr, and my youngest DD 23yrs has moved to Dubai to teach, they were full of excitement whilst I was full of tears! It never gets any easier saying goodbye. But on the plus side you can go and visit Canada, its a beautiful country.

What a great experience for him.
Our son went to China a couple of years ago, he’s met a lovely Chinese lady, and has no plans whatsoever to come back and live here. He has an amazing life out there, he’s happy, healthy and has found love. We speak at least once a week over FaceTime, and he frequently messages us. And as you can see from my countdown, we visit him as well 😀 Give it a couple of weeks, and you’ll be in planning mode for a visit. |

Great experience and I am sure you’ll get used to it. Our DS23 was 22 when he went to work in Finland. He’s been there 7 months and came home for Xmas for 2 weeks, he is living his best life and we are so proud of him. He went alone and has made so many friends and done things he wouldn’t do here. We do miss him and DD17 has nobody to argue with!
He’ll have a great time.

How lovely for your son, but it is so hard for us parents when they go far away.

It must be so hard at the moment for you but it’s what he wants to do and you know he would never be happy until he had at least given it a go. And at the end of the day the main thing we want for our children is to be healthy and happy.
I waved goodbye to DD at the train station in January as she went off to travel Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia tonight she is on the first flight of her long journey home but she is only home for 2 months and then starts her grad job in London over 4 hrs from here. As someone said earlier ( and I am another single mum with an only child) we give our children roots and wings. Hope your son has an amazing time and you get many opportunities to visit him. |

[QUOTE=munmun;13909731]Sandra, congratulate yourself and you’re husband for bringing up a child who has the courage and independence to move away and live elsewhere.
Couldn’t agree more, our dd moved to Dubai 5 years ago ( she initially went on a 2year contract). DH was distraught, I took the view it was an opportunity and an adventure she would regret if she didn’t experience it. We miss her but have regular contact via what’s app and FaceTime etc. We’ve also had some very nice holidays in Dubai She is now a very independent , confident woman (she’s just turned 30) and I couldn’t be more proud of her achievements. She’s happy , healthy and living and loving life what more could you want for your children😁. It will get easier it just takes a bit of getting used too.
