But apparently people aren't driving with due care, because there's someone on here every week that's "accidently" run a toll, or blindly followed a sat nav and not gone through the pay lanes.

Actually I don't sunscribe to the rip off comment re the admin fee. However I'm not referring to the worst offenders E.g. Dollar.
We pay a premium in life for a convenience, for example I pay for Amazon Prime. Not because I love them but because I want all my stuff the next day. That's a payable convenience.

Yeah but I get Amazon Prime for the TV too. And the fact I buy lots of Amazon stuff means it pays for itself. Prime is not a service fee as you can recover it.

The toll pass system in other states I have visited, with Enterprise, is a fixed fee of $3 to register you for that toll pass for your usage of it. Much better value. Its only because its Florida that they charge so much.
According to HTALLC website Enterprise charge $3.95 day / $19.95 rental period in Texas also. It is the same in many states, and they are listed on the site. The same rate as Florida BTW!

I assume if you own your car in FL it would also be free to fit and use a transponder?( which isn't really relevant to the OP)

I choose to use the epass system and have done since it was introduced. I got fed up of making sure I had enough quarters in the car. As OP says it is personal choice.

I've always found the charges when they come through to be accurate.
