Botox - Migraines?

Has anyone used Botox for migraine relief?

I've been a sufferer for 30 years and as I approach menopause years I'm finding increased frequency of attacks with no obvious trigger.

I take amitryptilin for prevention but my dosage is having to be increased to be effective and I really don't like the side effects

I've read that Botox in the right area can reduce or stop attacks for up to 3 months.

Has anyone used this? Does it work?

If I pay privately anyone know how much it costs?

Thanks

My friend at work has this done, I'm afraid it hasn't worked for her and she has had two rounds done so far.

One of the girls in my shop has Botox every 3 months for migraines.
Its really made a difference to her life. She has been having it now for 2 plus years.
She suffered terribly since she was 10!
Tried everything. She has been taken off all her medication now and just has the odd paracetamol.
She is 47 now!
She has now got her life back!

Our friend is a nurse that specialises in this. He's trying to convince DH to give it a go. Apparently it's freely available on NHS. DH hasn't been the GP yet but hoping he will soon

Sam Bailey was talking about this on loose women at the end of last week. She said that whilst that isn't why she had it done, it had really helped with her migraines.

It's injected into the muscles around the head and neck. Same as Botox for cosmetic use!
A depth of 2-3mm

I have recently started suffering with horrendous migraines again after a five year break without any. I initially started suffering back in 1999 after having an ovary removed. I controlled them for years by taking zomig, one of the symatriptan drugs.
The recent migraines have been lasting two or more days at a time and the nausea has been terrible. Eventually they became almost continous , I even had to be admitted to hospital as the symptoms were so horrendous. Had urgent ct scan, luckily nothing sinister found. I managed to get an urgent neurological appointment and three weeks ago he prescribed beta blockers. Only a small daily maintenance dose and the migraines have disappeared. I realise that its early days. I see the consultant again on 31st January but beta blockers have definitely worked for me.
They think that my recent migraines are linked to ongoing gynaecological issues but its lovely not to be suffering with migraines. I just need to sort my other "end out" next!

A friend of mine had horrendous migraines and had an ear piercing (acupuncture pressure point) in a particular place on her ear, she said she no longer suffers! Worth a look, cheaper than botox and drug free...xx
