Alamo from Sanford
Hi
We've booked a holiday through Thomson in May and took the hire car option. We took the 'fully inclusive' option which includes a 'CDW' but have a few questions. 1. Does anyone know how much they swipe from your card when you pick up the keys? 2. What other insurance is advisable when we go to the desk to pick up the keys? The travel agent said they would try and sell us everything! 3. we booked a 'compact' car for two adults and a 4 year old with three suitcases and hand luggage, is this big enough? |

Hi
1. Does anyone know how much they swipe from your card when you pick up the keys? Usually $1 although rarely and for no apparent reason, it could be up to $200. No logical reasoning behind it but I'd guess thats more for customers who use a debit card rather than a credit card 2. What other insurance is advisable when we go to the desk to pick up the keys? The travel agent said they would try and sell us everything! None. They may offer you an additional insurance to cover lost / locked in car keys, puncture cover etc. Think its about $5 a day with Alamo but you can get it cheaper through 3rd parties. Theres a company on Kissimmee but unfortunately I don't have the details to hand 3. we booked a 'compact' car for two adults and a 4 year old with three suitcases and hand luggage, is this big enough? Compact car would be something such as a Ford Focus. It may mean having to have some luggage on the back seat but its only for the airport trip. Just make sure to secure it with a seatbelt in case of heavy breaking. Edited at 07:55 PM. |

all as Andy says although this year, I had nothing against my card at all, and a very half hearted attempt to persuade me to upgrade from premium to luxury.
They might try to persuade you to move to a bigger car but you won't need one. Alamo at Sanford doesn't have skip the counter but do have self serve kiosks if you want to avoid the desk clerks, but they only seem to be working when they are busy

Give me a few hours. Unless he loses all my stuff

They'll probably push harder on upselling the class of car than the insurance!
You may find that you get a bigger car anyway even if you don't upgrade (although this is rarer than it once was).
