Definitely pay OOP. I don't understand the convenience comments as it is no less convenient to put all the money on a pre paid card as if you'd spent it on the plan. It does mean with the latter you can choose the courses and combinations you want rather than be restricted but Disney's script.

We had free qsdp in 2015. Came home with 4 meals each left cos we couldn't eat any more food. Also we paid oop for rainforest cafe & 4 buffets. Are home thinking we should have just booked a value hotel. Only did a.moderatr to get the dining and cost is 500 extra each x

we have purchased it at £1000 roughly for 2 adults and 2 children, we did get a discount as we booked when free dining was on, think we had £400 off as we are staying in All stars but have upgraded to the DDP.

For us its worth it, we will be doing a lot of character meals.

I have treat the free QSDP as a bonus and whatever value we get out of it as an extra, to upgrade 4 of us onto the dining plan for our trip would have cost around £1000 or just over 1200 dollars and we wont spend that in table service restaurants, we are going to be doing quite a bit of paying for our meals as we are doing a few but i think especially if you are doing universal too it isn't a good deal, disney rely on you not getting the most out of the dining plan as it's more profit, if it worked out cheaper for most customers to buy the dining plan then the cost would be put up.

I can understand people liking the convenience and also being able to book far in advance for character meals etc so in that instance it makes sense. I tend to eat less on holiday when i am hot and past it though and i know others who eat as much as possible haha
Planning the holiday round the meals is what's put me off. It's hard enough to get the rest of the family to do a park on a set day. If I told them where and when they were eating as well, I'd have a riot on my hands. I'd love to stay onsite again with the plan, but I can see it causing more hassle than it's worth.
