What an absolute nightmare

Not sure if this is the right place but it's just a moan.

Last August we booked a package to Florida with Thinas Cook - looking at seperates it worked out similar so we just booked it. Had a right nightmare with booking though, tried to book online, kept getting stuck, eventually had to ring TC, the woman had problems but finally managed it. Problems with dds age b she sorted it.

So, now I have a new job, DH has looked at the holiday and worked out that since I don't need school holidays anymore we can save about £1000 by going in term time. So he went online yesterday to try and change it, ended up having to ring someone, was on the phone for 2 hours, to be told he couldn't change it but had to go into our local TC shop.

So, this a,m we waited for them to open, woman looked at booking, had to go into online assistance to change it, there was a discrepancy in prices, they guy on online assistance was getting a cheaper price than the shop lady but would not tell her how and would not put it through the system until she could match his price, I told her to tell him we would cancel the holiday and re book with someone else, after a lot of messing around he said he was unable to change the booking and we would have to cancel and re book. So, she started to look at the dates we wanted, but then had to go through to remote assistance again. Basically when you try and book on the system 17 is the cut off point for a child, but when you try and book an adult 20 was the cut off point, so my daughter being 19 was the issue. I told them that this was the problem I had had originally booking at that the woman had to book it in a different system, it took ages for the remote guy to be able to sort it and eventually he managed to do it. She explained that they have 1 system that we can book with but they used to have up until 2 months ago another system which you could edit manually, so this just be what the woman had done last year, and this was the only way the remote assistant could do it!
We were sat there for 2 hours in that shop! We have saved about £1100, but gained about 50 new grey hairs and wrinkles and lost 2 hours I'll never get back!

ohhhh memories, last year TC were a nightmare for us too.

it was all the changes they made - that we didn't want or ask for.

I stopped dealing with the shop, online chat and anyone but the MDs Office on relations.customer@thomascook.com

they have the best prices (for us) and seemingly the best planes - but right and left hand much?

shoulda just called HQ - would have sorted it for you as online and shops just don't seem empowered to help.

I have their number somewhere if you need it. Don't be surprise at anything with TC. Just have to be on the ball and keep checking everything.

Biggest issue we had was seats - so get the CheckMyTrip app and get them log in details from them and check your seats regularly.

I remember last year worrying about seats on flights because if reading stuff on here but ours was ok, fingers crossed things are ok but that's for that re the number and I will deffo get back to you if we need it.

Like you say prices are the best with them, we have booked flights to New York with them this afternoon too, again cheapest flights but when I was typing up the details it was really lagging, when the email confirmation came through they had missed an E of the end of my name so I rang them immediately, the guy was lovely and said he would change it and send new email - it arrived still with the E missing! Just had to ring them back AGAIN. Then DH checked the booking from this morning, my 19 year old daughter is booked as MRS. rang them about that but the guy said as long as the gender was right and the name was spelt right that but was ok and that it used to be that you could only book either Mr or Mrs on their system.

not good when the authortahs are telling you to have it right. Doesn't inspire confidence.
And loads of misinformation too.

We booked direct with Disney and just holding off for flights. Have £400 voucher from TC for all the hassle so they are the carrier of choice, but just found VA Man-Atl-Mco, Mco-Man very close to our dates for under £2k for 2a 3k. Am expecting £500 direct - but £400 pp aint bad at all.

When I had my interview I said I already had holidays booked - which I have, whenever we go they are already booked. She said they usually honour existing holidays as long as it's not like 3 consecutive weeks booked. Plus I've looked at my contract and in my first year I get holidays pro rata, so by the time I actually go I will already have acrued the necessary days.

Look at the positives you've saved quite a bit of money... i would take a bit of stress in my life to save over a grand ... you've experience of Thomas cook before so know they can raise customers blood pressure and hopefully as you are aware of that will be vigilant. You've got a new job to look forward too and a lovely holiday ... enjoy it all X
PS my girls were all married off too according to Thomas cooks booking system and we're both down as Mrs
