For those of you who fill up at Disney and get to the rental car return at MCO with the gauge just nudging full, don't be surprised if you get a car from the rental company and the tank gauge starts dropping about 5miles after you leave the airport, as the previous renter may have done the same as you in filling up quite a distance away
Of course the car doesn't know that the driver is that type of person so this scenario could also happen to the decent honest people who actually return their car with a full tank as well

I have been hiring Cars in the States since 1976 and have never ever had a car that is truly full. Within circa 10 Miles it is normally heading to 3/4 full.
The rental companies must make Millions doing this but the letter of the 'law' is complied with - they show as full.
Small potatoes to me, its a few $ and I have bigger things to be dealing with.
The frustrating and annoying one though is NY hires where they come as empty and you have to pay Manhattan prices

Absolutely true and the vast majority are, but I'm not writing about them

Noticed that with Alamo in the past MrT but generally, with Budget, we find the needle is over the full mark. The top up on the Focus we had in May covered circa 190 miles for $11, not bad.

Oy vey, Manhattan prices!

I did this last time and filled up on Sand Lake Road by McDonalds before driving to MCO. The tank still showed full when I got there.
We didn't drive around a lot but just going to and from the parks to our villa plus a few trips to the shopping malls and had to add more fuel. Maybe if staying on site and not going many other places you wouldn't use a tank but then again it would depend on the size of the tank.

Always pay upfront. Might lose a few dollars but at the end of the day the convienance outweighs those benefits in my humble opinion.
