Photos/videos from sd card to mac without importing?

Want to burn video from SD card to DVD, but is this possible without importing ?
IE, I want to open the video files 'straight in' to the software I am going to use without importing..
Thanks Ted

What software you using to burn, and why not import, does the import process take ages or something?

Yes you can pop the card in and it will appear as a drive.

But any of the iPhoto/iMovies etc seem to want to import anything before working with them
