Canaveral/east coast Beaches

Hi, last time we went to Florida we visited Clearwater beach and although the beach was nice the sea was cloudy and deep and the kids didn't want to swim as they couldn't see the bottom

Thinking of visiting Canaveral beach somewhere as a change to the west coast, has anyone got any recommendations please?

portcanaveral/Recrea...ark-Campground

Here is good, don't now about hotels though. The Exploration Tower is interesting too and the area a great place for watching the cruise ships coming and going especially the Disney ones!
There are a couple of good fish restaurants too.

They're not going to see the bottom in Canaveral either.

Yes, I agree, Ilivehereorlando
We went in the sea at Cocoa Beach and it was lovely but not exactly calm and clear on that coast. Big waves crashing because there is a fairly steep dropoff once you get past your knees if wading.
Same at Fort Lauderdale further down the coast.

It's the Atlantic Ocean and therefore I presume chopper and hence cloudier/murkier than the Gulf Coast side. We've been on the Gulf coast side and in my experience definitely calmer and less cloudy.

Having said that both Cocoa Beach, and especially Fort Lauderdale were lovely beaches. Would like to explore more East coast beaches in the future

The photo that's my signature is St Augustine Beach.

Ok thank you for the replies, I suppose Clearwater didn't live up to its name! St Augustine looks lovely, im hoping there may be a launch when we are out and we can time it with that but maybe that's wishful thinking

Not on the same day! St Augustine is 100 miles north of Canaveral and is definitely worth a full day's visit on its own to appreciate its many delights.
