Do Dvd’s/BluRay’s bought in U.S. work here on Xbox or DVD players?

Hi, just wondering what the format is now with buying DVD’s or BluRays in the US? I know they never used to work here but I was wondering if anything has changed over the years? We tend to play all ours on the Xbox One and we really want to buy ‘The Greatest Showman’ as it’s out earlier in the US than here. Don’t want to risk it if it won’t work though so any advice welcome

Unless they've changed they used to be Region coded. UK being region 2 USA region 1.

Having said that if you look carefully on the back on the DVD cover some are region free.

You have Xbox One - is that the one with the 4K UHD blue ray player? And do you have a 4K TV? If so 4K discs are not region coded

this site goes into detail but as a general rule DVDs and blu ray discs ARE region locked, and your xbox will be locked to the uk. there are a lot of "region 0" blu ray discs, but not all are, its worth finding out if the specific discs you want are region locked or not.

xbox one games and 4k BD discs tend to have no region locks though

I will be able to find out when it finally goes on sale, tomorrow I think in US?

If you have Apple TV - setup a US iTunes account and buy it via that - this is what we did and enjoying watching it now

Confirmed - the US blu ray is region locked to US

The blu ray of Greatest Showman is region locked, but lots of films aren't. I often buy a good few on my trips to the States. There's a pretty good website that tells you which are region free here: regionfreemovies/
