Has anybody bought a Mac Book Air whilst in Florida?

Are they any cheaper than in the UK?

Did you have any compatability issues once back in the UK, charger, voltage etc?

I got mine over in US a few years ago - no problems at all.

As for price Apple do a good job of keeping prices consistent but generally change in exchange rate can make it cheaper over there. The other thing I’ve done when exchange rate isn’t too good is to look at Airport Duty Free prices which were cheaper than high street and at that time similar to US pricing

You will probably save some money, but will not get the UK power adapter (no big deal) and will get a US keyboard layout (would be a big deal to me).

As an aside, I would not buy a MacBook Air right now.

the higher the spec, the more you save. just bear in mind that as it costs more than £390 you are going over your allowance, so it should be declared

compatibility-wise, the only thing youll need is a UK plug adapter unless they've changed the PSU design in the new ones...

oh, its also a US keymap which has a smaller enter key and a couple of bits shifted around

so, assuming you buy from an apple store, rather than somewhere that has it cheaper, you are looking at $999+sales tax (6.5%) vs £949. these sums dont include any duty to pay at the airport once declared...

(at current exchange rate of £1=$1.40)

$999 *1.065 = $1063.94 / 1.4 = £759.95 vs £949 = £189 saved

if you buy on offer, the savings are even greater. eg amazon, chances are the price you pay is inclusive (ie no added sales tax)

$850.92 /1.4 = £607.80 vs £949 = £341.20 saved!

if you are a student/work in education you can get the student discount at the apple store with proof, this reduces costs further.

i dont know of any official word about accepting it, and my mate is the only other person i know personally who has bought a laptop in the US, but you *should* be able to use it without issue!

i got my (top end 15") macbook pro from macmall.com in oct 2014 - i found a discount code and ended up saving over £500 from uk price

i also got a mac mini server from amazon.com and saved over £350 back in 2011

What's the problem with a MacBook Air?

Can you bring these back in your hand luggage now? I thought all laptops had to go in the hold or has something changed?
